The Baale of Kirikiri Town, Chief Babalola Shabi, has accused officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service of granting preferential treatment to social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, during his incarceration in 2024.
Chief Shabi made the allegations during a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Police Command as part of activities marking the National Police Week.
According to the traditional leader, Bobrisky allegedly smuggled eight ATM cards into the Kirikiri Correctional Centre and used them to transfer over N35 million through local point-of-sale operators. The funds, he claimed, were used to bribe officials for VIP treatment.
Chief Shabi further alleged that Bobrisky was not housed in a regular prison cell, but instead stayed in a private apartment outside the facility, shielded by complicit officers.
“Everyone believed he was serving time behind bars, but in reality, he lived in comfort outside the prison,” he stated.
So far, Bobrisky has not issued any public response to the latest allegations.
The controversial influencer was sentenced on April 12, 2024, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, to six months in prison for the abuse and mutilation of Naira notes, totalling N490,000.
Following his release in August, whistle-blower and influencer Martins Otse, known as “VeryDarkMan,” claimed Bobrisky had paid N15 million in bribes to the EFCC to evade money laundering charges—a claim Bobrisky has since denied.
