As of February 28, 2025, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has successfully registered over 117 million individuals for the National Identity Number (NIN), according to the latest enrolment statistics from the NIMC dashboard.
The data shows that 66,281,803 (56.5%) of the registered individuals are male, while 51,079,521 (43.5%) are female. Lagos State stands out with the highest cumulative enrolment, accounting for over 12.6 million registrants, followed by Kano State with 10.2 million.
NIMC’s report also highlights a regional balance in enrollment, with an almost equal distribution between northern and southern states.
However, some states recorded lower enrollment numbers. Bayelsa has the lowest with 758,111 registrations, followed by Ebonyi (990,775) and Ekiti (1,143,102). Other states with comparatively low figures include Cross River (1,397,233), Taraba (1,768,754), Yobe (1,857,532), Kogi (1,912,382), Enugu (1,946,464), Kwara (2,004,667), and Imo (2,024,423).
In contrast, Lagos recorded the highest number of registrations, with a total of 12,612,334, including 6,870,915 males and 5,741,419 females. Kano follows closely with 10,246,055 registrants, and Kaduna with 6,945,818 registrations. Other top states include Ogun, Oyo, Katsina, the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, Delta, and Bauchi.
The ongoing NIN registration campaign continues to make progress across the country, with efforts to increase awareness and drive participation in states with lower enrolment rates.
