The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s identity management system by emphasizing that all modifications to the National Identification Number (NIN) must be conducted exclusively through its official self-service portal.
In a statement released on Monday by the Head of Corporate Communications, NIMC underscored the importance of data security, urging citizens to refrain from using unauthorized platforms for NIN updates. The commission stressed that any modifications should be carried out solely on SelfserviceModification.nimc.gov.ng to prevent data breaches and potential identity theft.
“NIMC remains dedicated to ensuring the security and integrity of citizens’ personal information. As such, we advise the public to utilize only the official self-service portal for NIN modifications. Engaging with third-party or unauthorized websites poses significant risks, including data compromise and fraud,” the statement read.
The agency further highlighted the efficiency and convenience of its self-service portal, noting that it allows individuals to update their details remotely without the need for physical visits to enrollment centers. By leveraging this secure platform, Nigerians can maintain control over their personal data while ensuring compliance with national security protocols.
NIMC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens’ identity information and urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent platforms that seek to exploit personal data.
