FBI Director Kash Patel says an operation targeting international cybercrime networks in Nigeria led to nine arrests and the seizure of 53 electronic devices.
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says it has arrested nine suspects in Nigeria during an operation targeting international cybercrime networks.
FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed this on Monday, saying authorities also seized 53 electronic devices and identified 11 million dollars in potentially recoverable funds across several countries.
Patel said the suspects operated scam centres that defrauded victims, stole their life savings and used international networks to evade law enforcement.
He described the operation, code-named Blackout, as part of efforts to disrupt cybercriminal networks targeting Americans.
The FBI director thanked Nigerian law enforcement agencies and partners in London for their cooperation in the operation.
However, Patel did not identify the locations of the alleged scam centres in Nigeria or provide details of the suspects and the specific charges they may face.
