The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to rescue all abducted persons across the country.
Shuaibu arrived at the headquarters of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The visit followed a directive issued by Tinubu on October 15, ordering security chiefs to intensify efforts to secure the release of all kidnapped persons nationwide.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed the presidential directive after a security meeting chaired by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Musa, the President also ordered security agencies to ensure that no terrorist or bandit camp remained anywhere in the country.
He said Tinubu had further directed service chiefs and other security heads to provide a safe environment for Nigerians to participate in the elections scheduled for January.
Musa quoted the President as directing security agencies to intensify operations to locate and rescue abducted persons wherever they were being held.
The arrival of the Army Chief in Borno comes amid renewed efforts to address insecurity and strengthen military operations in the North-East.
