The Kaduna State Government says agriculture, health and education will remain major priorities in its 2027 budget.
This is as it focuses on human capital development and consolidating achievements recorded over the last three and a half years.
Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Muktar Ahmed Monrovia, disclosed this on Wednesday during the opening of the 2027 Expenditure and Revenue Budget Defence in Kaduna
Monrovia said the 2027 budget would consolidate the policies and programmes implemented by the administration of Governor Uba Sani since its inception.
He said the government would introduce Early Child Development, targeting children aged zero to five years, as a new component of its human capital development agenda.
The commissioner added that social protection, security and infrastructure would also receive attention as part of efforts to secure the state and improve the welfare of underserved communities.
According to him, the administration has made significant investments in security over the past three and a half years, with existing programmes expected to continue in 2027.
The 2027 budget will be the fourth budget of the Uba Sani administration and the final budget cycle of its first term.
Monrovia said agriculture would remain a key priority because Kaduna has more than one million of Nigeria’s estimated 42 million farming households.
He said the state government had, over the past three years, distributed free fertiliser and improved seeds to smallholder farmers to increase agricultural productivity.
The commissioner said the government’s rural transformation agenda would also focus on connecting farms to markets, strengthening local economies and reducing rural-to-urban migration.
He stressed that the government would continue to invest in sectors capable of improving human capital, expanding economic opportunities and enhancing the living conditions of residents.
