The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 19, 2026, for five by-elections across four states as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election intensify.
INEC Chief Press Secretary, Tunde Oketola, disclosed this in an interview with Journalists, in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Oketola, the elections will cover one federal constituency and four state constituencies.
The federal constituency election will be held in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State.
The four state constituency elections are:
Disina State Constituency — Bauchi State
Sakwa State Constituency — Bauchi State
Udu State Constituency — Delta State
Dawakin Kudu State Constituency — Kano State
The by-elections come as political activities across the country gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The September 19 polls will provide an opportunity for INEC to test its preparations and electoral processes ahead of the larger 2027 elections.
