The Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to immediately gazette the 2026 Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections.
KDI in A statement by it’s Executive Director, Bukola Idowu, on Monday August 3, says the move is essential to strengthen transparency and provide legal certainty ahead of future elections.
It acknowledges INEC for releasing the regulations to the public but argued that the absence of an official Federal Government Gazette means the authoritative legal and operational framework remains incomplete.
The organisation said gazetting would formally authenticate the guidelines and support their implementation under the Electoral Act 2026.
“publishing the regulations in the Gazette would give political parties, candidates, election observers, security agencies and voters access to a single official version of the rules, reducing disputes over interpretation as well as boosting public confidence in the electoral process”.
With preparations for the 2027 general election underway, KDI expressed optimism that early gazetting would also allow stakeholders enough time to study and understand the regulations, helping to prevent avoidable legal and administrative disputes.
KDI called on INEC to promptly gazette and widely disseminate the regulations, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to supporting credible, transparent and peaceful elections in Nigeria.
