Nigeria has declared itself fully prepared to host the 2026 CAVB Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Nations Cup qualifiers, with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) expressing confidence in the country’s ability to deliver a successful tournament and secure qualification for the continental championship.
The competition will take place from July 3 to 7 in Badagry, Lagos State, bringing together eight West African nations to battle for places at the African Beach Volleyball Championship in Morocco.
Speaking on the sidelines of the final day of the first round of the third CGC Volleyball Premier League in Abuja, NVBF President Musa Nimrod said Nigeria’s men’s and women’s teams are in excellent condition after weeks of intensive camping.
“We are well set. The eight countries coming to Badagry are preparing, but Nigeria is ready. We believe we will secure qualification, and it is going to be an exciting championship,” he said.
Nimrod explained that Badagry was selected because of its coastal location, accessibility for participating countries and its established reputation as Nigeria’s home for beach volleyball.
“We have held camping programmes and continental championships in Badagry over the years. It is our home for beach volleyball, and the people there are always happy to welcome us,” he added.
The NVBF President revealed that accommodation and logistics have been fully arranged, with hotels secured for players, federation officials and members of the Local Organising Committee.
He also urged volleyball fans and residents of Lagos and Badagry to turn out in large numbers to support the event, noting that grassroots beach volleyball programmes in the area have helped build strong local interest in the sport.
Nimrod thanked members of the federation’s board and stakeholders for their support, while praising the quality of the ongoing third CGC Volleyball Premier League. He also disclosed that preparations are already underway for the second phase of the league, which will be held in Abia State.
With Nigeria banking on home support and thorough preparations, the hosts will be aiming to book their ticket to Morocco when the first serve is made in Badagry next week.
