The U.S. Mission in Nigeria says visa fees are non-refundable worldwide and advises applicants to prepare submissions carefully.
The United States Mission in Nigeria has urged Nigerian travellers to strictly comply with US immigration regulations, warning that violations could jeopardise future opportunities to visit, study, or work in the country.
In a message posted on its official X account on Tuesday, the mission stressed that adherence to visa conditions is essential for maintaining access to future travel benefits and preserving eligibility for entry into the United States.
According to the mission, travellers should ensure they stay only for the period authorised under their visas, keep their immigration documents up to date, and avoid actions that could negatively affect their immigration records.
“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do; it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travelers,” the post read.
The advisory comes amid ongoing efforts by US authorities to tackle visa overstays and strengthen the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
The mission reminded Nigerians travelling for education, employment, tourism, or other purposes to fully observe the terms attached to their visas.
“Whether you’re studying, working, or visiting the United States, always honour the terms of your visa. Follow the rules. Stay only for as long as you are authorized. Keep your documents updated. Make choices that safeguard your dreams,” the mission said.
It added that respect for immigration procedures benefits both travellers and bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States.

The mission noted that compliance measures are intended to protect the credibility of the visa system while ensuring continued access for genuine travellers seeking opportunities in the United States.
