Former Nigerian international hockey player and former board member, Yohanna Faruk, has praised the leadership of the Nigeria Hockey Federation for its efforts to reposition the sport ahead of the 2026 Hockey Super League, which begins on June 25.
Faruk commended the federation’s president, Engr. Simon Nkom, for facilitating the visit of Africa Hockey Federation President Seif Ahmed and German coach Michael Behrmann, describing the initiative as a significant boost to hockey development in Nigeria.
He said the presence of the two international hockey figures demonstrates the federation’s commitment to raising standards and exposing Nigerian players and coaches to global best practices.

According to Faruk, the strategic partnerships will improve the quality of the league and contribute to the long-term growth of hockey across the country.
He also expressed confidence in the federation’s preparations for the competition, noting that participating men’s and women’s teams have already entered camp and commenced intensive training ahead of the season opener.
Faruk said the 2026 Hockey Super League will provide a platform for some of Nigeria’s finest hockey talents to compete for honours while benefiting from enhanced technical expertise and international collaboration.
The league is expected to strengthen the development of hockey in Nigeria and further position the country within the African hockey landscape.
