Vice President Kashim Shettima submits President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 APC presidential nomination forms at the party headquarters in Abuja, flanked by top APC leaders.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has submitted President Bola Tinubu’s expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.
At the venue in Abuja, Shettima defended the administration’s economic direction and said President Tinubu has “proved his mettle” by pushing reforms aimed at stabilising Nigeria’s economy despite public hardship.
The APC National Working Committee received the nomination forms after James Faleke purchased them on 28 April on behalf of the president and allied support groups, completing the party’s internal formalisation process.
Shettima explained that the administration deliberately adopted tough economic measures to confront structural weaknesses and rebuild investor confidence.
He said the government continues to implement reforms even as inflation rises and households struggle with higher living costs.
He argued that the president has sustained economic reforms under pressure and has refused to reverse key policy decisions despite political criticism.
“The storms of the past years have not diminished him; they have made a fine steel out of him,” Shettima said.
He added that the administration prioritises long-term economic recovery, exchange rate stability, and investor confidence over short-term political comfort.

Shettima said the government remains focused on steering Nigeria out of economic difficulties through what he described as unavoidable but painful reforms.
He noted that internal consultations within the APC produced broad support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition across party structures and regions.
The submission comes at a time when inflation, fuel subsidy removal, and currency reforms continue to fuel public debate over the cost of economic restructuring.
Despite these pressures, the government maintains that foreign exchange stability and renewed investor interest show signs of gradual economic recovery.
Shettima acknowledged public frustration but insisted that leadership requires difficult choices that often generate short-term pain.
He said, “The truth that sets men free is most often the truth that men prefer not to hear.”
The APC leadership accepted the nomination forms amid intensified political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties begin early positioning for the contest.
