Nyesom Wike engages EU envoys in Abuja, calling for increased investment in the Federal Capital Territory’s real estate and agriculture sectors.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged member states of the European Union (EU) to scale up investments in Abuja’s rapidly expanding agriculture and real estate sectors, citing ongoing reforms aimed at improving the territory’s investment climate.
Wike made the call during a meeting with EU envoys at the EU House in Abuja, where he highlighted emerging opportunities across key sectors of the FCT economy.
He noted that the territory is witnessing significant growth, driven by rising housing demand and expanding agribusiness potential supported by infrastructure development and policy reforms.

“There are opportunities in housing for investors to tap into. Real estate is booming in the FCT, and demand for residential and commercial properties is very high,” Wike said.
The minister disclosed that the FCT has about 274,000 hectares of arable land and that the administration is expanding rural access roads to boost agricultural production across area councils.
Wike emphasised that the FCT administration prioritises strategic investment partnerships over aid, calling for mutually beneficial cooperation.
“We are not looking for philanthropy. We are looking for a symbiotic partnership where both sides benefit,” he said.
He identified reforms in security, infrastructure, revenue generation, and the justice system as key factors driving investor confidence. According to him, internally generated revenue has increased from ₦7 billion monthly in 2023 to about ₦40 billion in 2026, positioning the FCT among Nigeria’s top revenue-generating sub-national entities after Lagos State.
On security, Wike said the administration is implementing a multi-layered strategy that combines the efforts of security agencies with road expansion into vulnerable communities and improved surveillance systems to reduce crime.
He added that the government is extending infrastructure development to satellite towns, including ongoing water supply projects in Karu, Orozo, and Bwari, which are expected to be commissioned during the third anniversary of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
