Masai Ujiri assumes leadership as Team President of the Dallas Mavericks, as the franchise targets sustained success and championship contention.
The Dallas Mavericks have appointed Masai Ujiri as Team President and Alternate Governor, signalling a strategic shift aimed at strengthening the franchise’s long-term championship ambitions.
Ujiri will oversee all basketball operations, including roster construction, player personnel decisions, scouting, and the overall strategic direction of the team.
Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont described the appointment as a “critical step” in the organisation’s pursuit of sustained success, highlighting Ujiri’s leadership credentials and track record.
Ujiri joins the Mavericks with a strong résumé, having led the Toronto Raptors to their first-ever NBA championship in 2019 during his tenure as President of Basketball Operations. His reputation for talent evaluation and disciplined roster building has positioned him among the league’s top executives.
Beyond his NBA success, Ujiri founded Giants of Africa, a non-profit initiative focused on youth development through basketball and education across Africa. The United Nations recognised his broader impact in 2025 by naming him a Sustainable Development Goals Advocate.
