Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, took place behind closed doors, with no official statement on the outcome.
Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, shared photographs of the visit on his X account, showing both leaders in conversation inside the president’s office.

Video clips from the meeting showed President Tinubu receiving Jonathan warmly, with the two exchanging greetings before proceeding to discussions.
Although the agenda was not disclosed, the visit follows a pattern of periodic engagements between the two leaders, often linked to political developments in West Africa.
The meeting also comes at a time of increasing political activity ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

There has been speculation in some quarters about a possible return to electoral politics by Jonathan, but the former president has not made any public statement on the matter.
Jonathan’s visit comes months after his last meeting with Tinubu on November 29, 2025, shortly after he was evacuated from Guinea-Bissau during a political crisis. At the time, he was leading an election observation mission under the West African Elders Forum.
In recent years, Jonathan has remained active in regional diplomacy, participating in election observation and mediation efforts across countries such as Mali, The Gambia and Liberia.
