Katsina State Government to host maiden mass wedding for 1,000 couples, aimed at supporting vulnerable residents and promoting social stability.
The Katsina State Government has concluded plans for its maiden mass wedding targeting at least 1,000 couples across the state’s 34 local government areas.
The initiative is part of efforts to reduce social vices and support vulnerable populations.
Officials say the programme will also empower brides, while grooms will receive support packages to help them start stable family lives.
Director General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Aminu Abu-Ammar, says many widows, orphans, and other vulnerable individuals are willing to marry but face economic barriers.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, A’isha Malumfashi, says about 2,000 beneficiaries have undergone medical screening and verification to confirm their health status and compatibility.
The mass wedding is scheduled to hold on April 25, 2026.
