The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has distributed food items to over 7,000 women from vulnerable households across Sokoto State, aimed at addressing rising poverty and food insecurity.
The intervention, disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media, Abdullahi Mohammed, underscores growing concerns over the economic pressures facing low-income families, particularly women who bear the brunt of household welfare.
According to the statement, the initiative focuses on providing essential food items to women identified as most at risk, including widows, single mothers, and those with limited means of livelihood.
The programme also reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection mechanisms at a time when many households continue to grapple with inflation and declining purchasing power.
Observers note that such targeted interventions are critical in cushioning vulnerable groups, especially in northern Nigeria where food insecurity remains a pressing challenge.
The distribution is expected to provide short-term relief while drawing attention to the need for sustainable policies that can improve livelihoods and reduce dependency on emergency aid.
“The intervention also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, which prioritises social investment programmes and improved living standards for Nigerians.”

Goronyo explained that under the agenda, significant strides have been recorded in national development, particularly in the areas of social amenities, security, and the construction and rehabilitation of key road networks.
These roads included: the Sokoto–Illela–Lagos (Badagry) Road, Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria Road, and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano corridor and other road projects across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He commended the president for his unwavering commitment to the unity of the nation and for his determination to use infrastructure as a powerful tool to bring Nigerians together,” the Minister said.
In addition to humanitarian support, the minister played a vital role in infrastructure development, contributing to critical road projects and other sectors that enhanced economic growth and national connectivity.
Goronyo noted that the intervention complemented ongoing efforts by the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu, whose administration has implemented various welfare programmes to improve the lives of citizens.
This initiative further underscores the importance of responsive leadership and targeted interventions in improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
