Former Governor of Sokoto State and serving senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and officially defected to the African Democratic Congress.
Tambuwal communicated his resignation in a letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
In the letter, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives said his decision to leave the opposition party followed extensive consultations and careful reflection on the current state of the party.

According to him, lingering internal crises, leadership disputes, and widening divisions within the PDP had made it increasingly difficult for him to remain in the party.
Tambuwal, who currently represents Sokoto South Senatorial District, said the internal conflicts had significantly weakened the unity and direction that once defined the PDP.
Despite his departure, he expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it gave him to serve Nigeria in both the legislative and executive arms of government.
Following his resignation, Tambuwal confirmed that he has joined the African Democratic Congress alongside several political associates and supporters.
He explained that the move was driven by his belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
Tambuwal also reaffirmed his dedication to public service, stressing his continued commitment to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity in Nigeria.
