The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended the lawmaker representing Obubra I State Constituency, Dickson Ovat Agbor, following allegations of violent conduct.
The decision was reached during Thursday’s plenary after a motion was moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Asuquo.
In presenting the motion, lawmakers condemned the alleged incident involving Agbor, describing the behaviour as unacceptable and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government.
After deliberations, the House resolved to place Agbor on indefinite suspension from all legislative activities.
The Assembly also approved the constitution of a committee to investigate the allegations and submit its findings for further legislative action.
Following the resolution, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms in compliance with the directive of the House.
Speaking on the development, the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, said the Assembly remains committed to maintaining discipline and protecting the integrity of the legislature.
Ayambem stressed that lawmakers must conduct themselves in ways that reflect the confidence and trust placed in them by the people.
According to the House, the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of the committee’s investigation.
