Iran’s slain supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be laid to rest in the holy city of Mashhad, according to the semi-official Fars news agency on Tuesday.
Khamenei, who led the Islamic Republic for 36 years, was killed at the age of 86 during a wave of U.S.-Israeli attacks on Saturday.

He will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city, where his father is interred at the revered Imam Reza shrine — one of the most significant religious sites in Shiite Islam.
Ahead of the burial, a “large farewell ceremony” will be held in Tehran, Iran’s capital, the Revolutionary Guards said on their Telegram account.
Authorities have yet to announce a date for the burial.
