The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSV) has referred resurfaced tweets allegedly linked to singer Simi to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation.
Executive Secretary Lola on Thursday says that the agency could not ignore public concerns over the tweets, which date back to 2012 and 2013.
The controversy began after Simi commented on social media about rape, urging men to stop sexual assaults, suggesting castration for rapists, and stating that “almost every woman she knows has been sexually assaulted.” Screenshots of her old tweets then circulated online, including posts referencing children at her mother’s daycare. Some comments, such as “love to kiss d kids at my mum’s daycare – they’re super adorable and I’m crazy abt ’em,” and “Why this 4yr old boy tryna put hand inside ma shet????? Ogbeni wash it oh!”, among others drew criticism for being inappropriate.
Simi responded, saying the tweets reflected her youth and experiences helping at her mother’s daycare, stressing they were “not written from perversion” and were taken out of context.

Vivour-Adeniyi confirmed the agency referred the matter to the police for scrutiny, citing safeguarding and child protection concerns. She added that Lagos State’s safeguarding taskforce had been briefed and preliminary investigations were ongoing.
She urged anyone who may have experienced sexual assault linked to the case to come forward, noting that prosecution would require a complainant. “We have a duty to at least commence preliminary investigation… The truth of the matter is, it’s going to be very difficult to prosecute without a survivor,” she said.
