Abuja court adjourns indefinitely the terrorism-financing case against Bauchi Finance Commissioner Yakubu Adamu pending Chief Judge’s decision.
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday adjourned indefinitely the terrorism-financing case involving Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, following a request from the prosecution to transfer the matter to another judge.
Justice Mohammed Umar announced the adjournment after the prosecution, led by M.O. Adebayo, wrote to the Chief Judge expressing discomfort with how the case was being handled. The Chief Judge has yet to respond to the letter.
Adamu’s defence counsel, Chris Uche (SAN), criticised the prosecution for failing to copy the defence on the letter, calling the move “unfair” and a violation of the defendant’s rights. Uche also requested the release of Adamu’s passport, noting that the commissioner was part of a delegation overseeing Bauchi State’s Hajj preparations.

Justice Umar described the issue as administrative rather than judicial and urged counsel to agree on a new date. The court ultimately adjourned the case sine die, pending the Chief Judge’s decision.
Adamu and three others face a 10-count charge of terrorism financing and money laundering filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The prosecution alleges that between January and May 2024, the defendants conspired to divert millions of dollars in state funds to individuals linked to terrorist activities.
The offences reportedly violate the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. The defendants were first arraigned on December 31, 2025, and pleaded not guilty. Adamu was granted bail in January 2026 in the sum of N500 million with two sureties who own property in designated Abuja districts.
