The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has commended voters and security agencies for what he described as a calm and orderly conduct of Saturday’s Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
Odumosu spoke to journalists after touring several polling units across the territory, saying his on-the-ground assessment showed no signs of tension or disruption.
“We have gone round and we have seen for ourselves and for me and for the security community, I can tell you that everything is going smoothly,” he said.

He noted that the polling units visited recorded orderly voter behaviour, supported by what he described as effective and visible security deployment.
“No cause for alarm. The voters conducted themselves in a very orderly manner as well as the security agencies,” Odumosu said.
“Apparently, before now, we have made very massive deployments to all the area councils, and you could tell from all the places we have been.”
The NSCDC commandant said security agencies would continue to review and refine their operational strategies, stressing that each election cycle presents distinct security challenges.
While noting that the process had so far progressed without incident, Odumosu said security personnel remained on alert as the election moved into the collation and results phase.
“So far, I can tell that this area council election is going on smoothly. We are only awaiting the elections to be concluded, and by the time the results are announced, that will be another phase,” he said.
“From what we have seen, I don’t envisage any violence or chaos immediately after the election result is announced. But if there is to be any, we are duty-bound to arrest the situation.”
He emphasised that the deployment of security operatives across polling units was preventive and strategic, aimed at ensuring public safety and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
