Nigeria Army Troop Using Drone
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of troops to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following deadly attacks on rural communities.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq announced the decision on Wednesday night during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Omar. He said the soldiers will operate under a new security operation known as Operation Savannah Shield.
According to the governor, the troops are expected to conduct coordinated operations in Kaiama and the adjoining National Park areas that stretch into Niger State. The aim, he said, is to flush out armed groups blamed for repeated attacks on villages in the region.
Governor Abdulrazaq, who was accompanied by senior security officials, described the killings as a grave assault on innocent civilians. He assured residents that the federal government and state authorities are working together to restore security and prevent further loss of life.
The intervention follows attacks on the communities of Woro and Nuku on Tuesday. Local sources say dozens of villagers were killed, while homes were set ablaze, forcing families to flee.

The Emir of Kaiama, speaking during the governor’s visit, said at least 75 villagers in Woro were killed after they rejected attempts by the attackers to impose extremist teachings on the community. He said the refusal reportedly triggered indiscriminate shootings.
The monarch also alleged that vehicles belonging to the village head were seized and used to transport abducted residents during the attack.
In the aftermath, soldiers and forest guards have been deployed to the affected communities to prevent further violence and reassure residents.
The latest violence highlights growing security concerns around forested border areas between Kwara and Niger states, where difficult terrain has made law enforcement operations challenging. Authorities say the new troop deployment is part of broader efforts to stabilise the region and protect vulnerable rural populations.
