Senator Ned Nwoko says the initiative aims to remove financial barriers to higher education for students in Delta North.
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has announced a free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration scheme for 1,500 students from the district,
The intervention comes as JAMB opens registration for the 2026 UTME. The board said UTME registration, including for candidates from foreign countries, runs from 26 January to 28 February 2026.
The senator disclosed the initiative on Wednesday in a statement shared via his official X account. He said the programme is aimed at easing financial barriers for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
According to him, the scheme covers candidates from Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North East, Ika South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Oshimili North, Oshimili South and Ukwuani local government areas of Delta State.
Mr Nwoko said the decision reflects his belief that education is central to sustainable development and social progress, stressing that no qualified student should miss higher education opportunities due to lack of funds.
He explained that eligible applicants must be at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026 and must generate a JAMB profile code using their National Identification Number (NIN).

The senator said interested students are expected to complete the process through the designated online portal provided in the announcement.
JAMB added that e-PIN sales began on 19 January and will close on 26 February, while Direct Entry registration will run from 2 March to 25 April 2026 and be conducted only at JAMB zonal and state offices.
For the 2026 exercise, JAMB approved three e-PIN categories: Direct Entry at ₦5,700; UTME without mock at ₦7,200; and UTME with mock at ₦8,700. The fees cover application costs, reading texts, CBT registration, service charges, bank fees and mock examination expenses where applicable.
Education advocates say initiatives such as the Delta North scheme could help reduce financial pressure on families and improve access to tertiary education at a time of rising examination and living costs.
