The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has cautioned Nigerians against circulating claims that the agency is currently recruiting, describing the reports as fraudulent schemes designed to exploit job seekers.
In a statement released on Monday via its official X account, the authority said it was forced to issue the warning following a surge in fake recruitment messages targeting economically vulnerable Nigerians.
According to NMDPRA, the syndicates behind the scam issue bogus employment letters, advertise non-existent vacancies, and make false promises of jobs while demanding large sums of money from unsuspecting applicants.
The agency stressed that no recruitment exercise is ongoing and that it is not employing staff at any level.
“We wish to state categorically that the NMDPRA is NOT conducting any recruitment exercise currently,” the statement read. “Neither is the Agency undertaking any kind of employment in its services at any level.”

NMDPRA explained that any future hiring would strictly follow established rules and procedures governing employment in the Nigerian Public Service, and would be formally announced through official channels.
The authority urged the public to disregard all fake recruitment advertisements and verify information only via its official website and verified social media platforms.
“For current and up-to-date information regarding all our activities, kindly refer to our official corporate website: www.nmdpra.gov.ng and our verified social media outlets on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram,” the statement added.
The agency warned that the activities of fraudsters not only lead to financial losses for victims but also harm its institutional reputation, calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment offers to the appropriate authorities.
