Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet is set to join Liverpool at the end of the season.
Liverpool have edged out Chelsea to agree a deal worth up to £60 million for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, British media report.
The 20-year-old centre-back will remain at the French club until the end of the season, despite Liverpool’s growing defensive crisis.
Chelsea had earlier shown strong interest in Jacquet, but reports say the player was discouraged by heavy competition in the club’s crowded defence.
Liverpool’s need is more urgent. New manager Arne Slot has limited options at centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté the only fit senior defenders available. Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are currently injured, while Konaté’s contract expires at the end of the season.

The deal is expected to include an initial £55 million payment, with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons.
