Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three men to death by hanging after finding them guilty of armed robbery.
The convicts Lasisi Afeez (33), Ilesanmi Seun (32), and Ajewole Peter (53) were arraigned before Justice Lekan Ogunmoye on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms, contrary to Sections 314, 312(2)(b), and 344 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
According to the charge, the defendants, on March 29, 2022, robbed victims at gunpoint in Ado Ekiti, dispossessing them of a Toyota Corolla car, mobile phones, laptops, ATM cards, a wedding ring, and cash. They were also found in possession of a double-barrel gun and live cartridges without a lawful permit.
One of the victims, Ojo Dada Emmanuel, testified that the robbery occurred at Maxwell Hospital around 11 p.m., where the assailants assaulted him and others before fleeing with his vehicle, later recovered by the police.

The prosecution, led by Julius Ajibare, called three witnesses and tendered exhibits including firearms, live ammunition, recovered phones, and vehicle documents. The defendants called no witnesses in their defence.
In his judgment, Justice Ogunmoye held that the prosecution proved its case on three counts of conspiracy and armed robbery, relying on the defendants’ confessional statements and exhibits. The court discharged them on the fourth count.
“The defendants are hereby sentenced to death by hanging,” the judge ruled.
The judgment follows a similar ruling in November, when the same court sentenced two other persons to death for armed robbery in Ekiti State.
