Closed gate at the FCTA Secretariat as workers commence strike in Abuja.
The workers of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) on Monday began an indefinite strike, halting government activities across Abuja.
The industrial action has led to the closure of FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies, area councils and parastatals, with workers barred from office premises.
The strike followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), which accused the FCTA management of failing to address long-standing labour and welfare concerns.

JUAC said unresolved issues include unpaid promotion arrears, stalled promotions, continued service extension for retired senior officials, and alleged non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund deductions.
The unions also criticised the 2024 promotion examinations, describing the exercise as flawed and unfair to many workers.
As of Monday, the FCTA management had yet to respond publicly to the strike action.
