Players and officials at the FCT FA Women’s Inter-Area Council Football Tournament
The 2026 FCT FA Women’s Inter-Area Council Football Tournament is expected to uncover new talents capable of progressing to the professional and international stage.
President and Founder of HerGame Foundation, Dr Pat Ajuma Ayegba, who is also a board member of the FCT Football Association, made this known ahead of Friday’s opening of the tournament.
The competition brings together teams from the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots women’s football and give young players competitive exposure.
Ayegba said the tournament had already demonstrated its potential as a talent-discovery platform, with promising players emerging from last year’s edition.
“We are hoping to see new talents. We are hoping to have new emerging professionals, international stars,” she said.
She also expressed interest in tracking the progress of players discovered during the previous edition.
Ayegba commended the FCT FA for its preparations and support for participating teams, recalling that she supported each team with one hundred and twenty thousand naira during last year’s competition.
The 2026 tournament has Bwari, Gwagwalada and AMAC in Group A, while Abaji, Kuje and Kwali are in Group B.
The group stage will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the semi-finals scheduled for September second and the final for September fifth.
Ayegba also welcomed the planned attendance of the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, at the opening ceremony.
She described Omidiran as a strong supporter of women’s football and the development of the girl child.
Ayegba said the tournament could become an important scouting platform for producing future FCT stars, professional players and national-team prospects.
