A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama has remanded former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application over alleged abuse of office.
Justice Peter Kekemeke ordered Umar’s remand on Thursday after he was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge accusing him of conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as CCT chairman.
Umar pleaded not guilty to all four counts.
Following the plea, EFCC prosecuting counsel, Christopher Mshelia, asked the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in custody.
Defence counsel urged the court to hear Umar’s bail application immediately, but the prosecution opposed the request, saying it had only recently been served with the application and needed time to file its response.
Justice Kekemeke adjourned the case until July 15 for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that Umar remain at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings
