The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has declared Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as governor of Ekiti State after victory in Saturday’s poll.
The incumbent won in all 16 Local Government Areas to defeat other challengers in the race.
Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, and INEC’s Returning Officer, announced the final result at the collation centre in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Sunday morning.

Oladiji said Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who garnered 40,543 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, who scored 12,872 votes.According to INEC, 988,251 voters registered for the election.
However, only 384,940 voters were accredited.
Total valid votes stood at 375,777, while 6,332 votes were rejected. Total votes cast were 382,109.With the declaration, Oyebanji will serve a second four-year term as governor of Ekiti State.
INEC is expected to present Certificates of Return to the governor-elect and his deputy in the coming days.
