Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected bandit leader linked to kidnappings and armed robberies along the Benue–Taraba border.
The suspect, Fidelis Gayama, was arrested on 21 December during an intelligence-led operation by troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari under Operation Whirl Stroke. The operation took place in Vaase community, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Muhammad Umar said Gayama is a high-value suspect wanted for leading a criminal network that attacked travellers and communities along the Kente–Wukari Road. He is also believed to be closely linked to Dogo, a wanted armed group leader.

Police officers at the Vaase outpost confirmed that the suspect was on the wanted list of the Beji Police Division in Ukum. The army said he is in custody and will be handed over for investigation and prosecution.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, described the arrest as a major blow to criminal groups in the area and urged residents to continue sharing credible information with security agencies.
