Former Labour Minister Chris Ngige appears in court as EFCC arraigns him on a ₦2.2bn corruption charge in Abuja.
Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, at the Kuje Correctional Centre over alleged ₦2.2bn corruption.
The order was issued on Friday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the former Anambra governor on an eight-count charge of abuse of office and contract fraud linked to the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
The case was adjourned to 15 December for the hearing of Ngige’s bail application.

EFCC counsel Sylvanus Tahir asked the court to set a date for trial and requested Ngige’s remand.
Ngige’s lawyer opposed the request, saying his client had already spent three days in EFCC custody, is well-known in the country, and required medical attention.
The charge sheet, filed on 9 December, alleges that Ngige, while serving as minister between 2015 and 2023, used his office to award multiple consultancy, training, and supply contracts worth over ₦1.9bn to companies linked to his associates.
Ngige arrived at the court around 8:10 a.m. accompanied by EFCC officials over Sixty Eight Million, One Hundred and Thirty Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Forty One Naira) only.
