Liberia’s President, Joseph Boakai, said Imo State can achieve significant transformation through innovation.
Boakai spoke on Thursday at the 2025 Imo Economic Summit in Owerri, hosted by Governor Hope Uzodimma. “Innovation can become the engine that drives Imo’s transformation,” he said.
He added that elections should not only be peaceful but also deliver development benefits to citizens. “The lives of the people must be improved,”
Boakai noted similarities between Liberia and Imo State, highlighting shared resilience, commitment to peace, and good governance. He also praised Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council as a symbol of Africa’s growing global influence.

The president expressed optimism about regional collaboration between Liberia and Imo, focusing on development and democratic governance.
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The summit also attracted former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, business leader Aliko Dangote, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and several state governors.
