President Bola Tinubu on Monday welcomed Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio to the State House in Abuja.
President Bio arrived at the Presidential Villa at 12:22 p.m., where he was received by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. The Presidential Guards Brigade honored him with traditional bagpipe music.
Nigeria and Sierra Leone have maintained strong diplomatic ties since gaining independence in 1960 and 1961, respectively. Both nations are active members of ECOWAS and the African Union, collaborating on initiatives to promote regional peace, stability, and economic growth.
Notably, Nigeria played a crucial role in Sierra Leone’s civil war (1991–2002) by leading the ECOWAS Monitoring Group in peacekeeping efforts to restore stability.
