The University of Benin has banned all sign-out celebrations by graduating students to maintain order and discipline on campus.
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced a total ban on all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students, warning that violators will face strict disciplinary actions.
In a circular issued on Tuesday in Benin by the Registrar, Mr. Ademola Bobola, the university said the decision was reaffirmed at a management meeting held on Monday, following an earlier Senate resolution prohibiting such activities.
“No sign-out celebration of any kind, including signing on T-shirts and playing of music, will be tolerated,” Bobola stated.
The circular further warned that students who disregard the directive risk rustication, expulsion, or even withdrawal of their certificates.

UNIBEN management also cautioned against unauthorised gatherings, vehicle parades, and photo stands around faculties or institutes during and after final examinations.
“Indiscriminate parading around campuses in any brand of vehicle will not be permitted. Unauthorised vehicles will be restricted during the last week of examinations,” the Registrar added.
Parents and guardians of final-year students were equally advised to stay away from the university premises, particularly on the last day of examinations.
Bobola stressed that the ban was aimed at maintaining order, discipline, and academic decorum on campus.
“Members of the university community are to note the above position for strict compliance,” he warned.
The decision comes amid growing concerns over unruly celebrations by graduating students in Nigerian universities.
