Vice President Kashim Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s statement at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, focusing on UN reform, climate change, and global finance.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will today (Wednesday) represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where he is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima’s address is scheduled between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. New York time.

The statement will highlight Nigeria’s position on pressing global issues, including multilateralism, United Nations reform, climate action, and the restructuring of international finance.
At the same global platform in 2024, President Tinubu had urged world leaders to grant Africa permanent seats on the UN Security Council—a proposal now under review by the United Nations.
Nigeria’s participation this year is expected to reinforce its call for a fairer global system, as well as its commitment to addressing climate change and strengthening international cooperation.
