Senate President Godswill Akpabio presides over plenary as the Senate resumes deliberation on the Electoral Act amendment bill in Abuja.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that people criticising President Bola Tinubu and his supporters on social media are being paid, but provided no evidence to support the claim.
Akpabio made the allegation on Wednesday when members of the Arewa Revival Project, a northern youth group, visited him at his office.
He urged the group, led by its coordinator, Mustafa Ibrahim, to mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Akpabio said the youths should engage Nigerians on the administration’s policies and challenge propaganda against the government.
He acknowledged that the group could face challenges in countering online criticism, saying some people attacking the president and his supporters were being paid.
The Senate president also defended Tinubu’s economic policies, including the tax reforms, arguing that the administration was working to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on crude oil.
He urged young Nigerians to look beyond social media criticism and consider the government’s efforts to address the country’s economic challenges.
Akpabio endorsed Tinubu for a second term, saying he and other members of the National Assembly supported the president’s re-election bid.
The Arewa Revival Project, whose members come from the 19 northern states, presented Akpabio with an award in recognition of his contributions to nation-building.
Tinubu is expected to seek re-election in 2027, when the ruling All Progressives Congress will face opposition parties in the general election
