US President Donald Trump on Wednesday launched a blistering attack on Hollywood icon Robert De Niro, branding the veteran actor “sick and demented” after he called on Americans to “resist” the administration.
De Niro, a longtime critic of Trump, made the remarks during an episode of The Best People with Nicolle Wallace podcast aired Monday, where he accused the president of damaging the country.
“Everybody has to stick together to get them out and get back on track,” the 82-year-old actor said.
“The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it’s sick.
“People have to resist, resist, resist, resist, resist. That’s the only way.”

Trump responded in a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform, unleashing a personal attack on the Oscar-winning actor.
“Deranged Robert De Niro, another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying — some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!” Trump wrote.
The president also used the post to criticise Democratic lawmakers Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.
De Niro, known for iconic roles in Taxi Driver and The Godfather, has repeatedly spoken out against Trump. During his lifetime achievement award speech at the Cannes Film Festival last year, he described the president as a “philistine.”
