INEC Chairman Josh Amupitan monitors voting during the FCT area council elections in Abuja.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Josh Amupitan, has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that their votes will count in Saturday’s area council elections.
Mr Amupitan said election results would be electronically transmitted to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), in line with existing electoral laws.
He gave the assurance while monitoring the polls across several polling units in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The INEC chairman said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was functioning effectively, adding that election materials were deployed early and voting had been largely peaceful across the FCT.
According to him, credible council elections are key to strengthening confidence in grassroots democracy, especially as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
