Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has come under online criticism after mistakenly directing an angry social media post at gospel singer Tosin Bee, amid an ongoing child custody dispute.
The controversy followed court proceedings at the Lagos State High Court, where Davido is seeking joint custody of his daughter, Imade, with his former partner Sophia Momodu.
During Thursday’s hearing in Yaba, the singer reportedly clashed with a lawyer representing Ms Momodu. A day later, he posted a strongly worded message on Instagram criticising the lawyer, accusing her of insensitive remarks during cross-examination.
Soon after, Davido reposted content from Tosin Bee, appearing to link the singer to the lawyer. The post triggered online attacks on Tosin Bee’s page, as some fans assumed a personal connection.

Tosin Bee later said it was a case of mistaken identity.
“Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made,” he wrote, adding that his mother died eight years ago. He expressed support for Davido and described the incident as a misunderstanding.
The clarification shifted public reaction, with many calling for a public apology and condemning online harassment.
Late Friday, Davido announced on X that he would withdraw the custody case. He said he had only asked for joint custody, not full custody.
“Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade,” he wrote.
Court documents show that Davido filed for joint custody in April 2024, stating that he has consistently supported his daughter’s education and welfare.
The episode highlights the emotional strain of custody disputes and the speed at which social media posts can affect unrelated individuals.
