The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway for four weeks to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to rehabilitate failed sections of the road. The project is set to begin Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and conclude Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the plans in a statement shared on the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s X handle on Tuesday.
According to Osiyemi, the rehabilitation will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes.

Two-Phase Traffic Plan to Minimize Disruption
The rehabilitation will be executed in two phases to reduce traffic congestion:
- Phase One (Feb 11 – Mar 4, 2026): Abeokuta-bound traffic from Lagos/Abule-Egba to Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 meters from the active work zone. Work will proceed on one lane at a time, with traffic shifted to completed sections as construction continues. Lagos-bound motorists will maintain uninterrupted traffic flow during this phase.
- Phase Two (Mar 4 – Mar 11, 2026): Lagos-bound traffic from Sango Tollgate to Lagos/Abule-Egba will be diverted through one half of the road near the work zone. Abeokuta-bound motorists will continue to enjoy free-flowing traffic, with lanes opened progressively as rehabilitation progresses.
Mr. Osiyemi assured road users that adequate traffic management measures will be implemented throughout the project to ensure safety and minimize inconvenience.
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes where possible and exercise patience during the rehabilitation works, which aim to enhance road safety and travel efficiency along this critical Lagos–Abeokuta corridor.
