A Senegalese university student has died following violent confrontations between security forces and students protesting delayed stipend payments, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday at Sheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, where students had gathered to express frustration over unpaid allowances. According to a government statement, clashes erupted during the protest, leading to the fatality.

Government spokeswoman said the deceased was identified as Abdoulaye Ba, a second-year medical student at the institution.
The death has heightened concerns over recurring unrest across Senegal’s higher education sector. In recent months, students at several public universities have staged intermittent protests, accusing authorities of failing to meet stipend payment obligations, a key source of support for many undergraduates.
