Former Pension Reform Task Force chairman Abdulrasheed Maina
Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reform Task Force, was hospitalised on Tuesday after slumping while attempting to access his office in Abuja.
According to a statement on Wednesday by his media aide, Emmanuel Ekwe, the incident resulted from complications linked to an untreated knee injury. Maina reportedly lost his balance and fell, hitting his head on a staircase before receiving medical attention.
“Dr Abdulrasheed Maina slumped on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, while attempting to enter his office premises,” Ekwe said. “Medical personnel promptly administered first aid and rushed him to a private hospital for urgent care.”
Maina is now under close observation, with doctors monitoring his condition. The family has appealed to the public for prayers and privacy during this critical period.

Maina is best known for his controversial tenure as head of the Pension Reform Task Force and the high-profile corruption case that followed. In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on money-laundering charges linked to N2.1 billion in pension funds, sentencing him to eight years in prison. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in May 2023.
Despite the sentence, Maina was released from Kuje Correctional Centre on February 25, 2025, following statutory remission for good conduct. Since then, he has kept a low profile, though his activities continue to attract public attention due to the impact of the pension scandal.
