The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that an abduction occurred in Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, after initial reports caused confusion.
In a statement on X on Tuesday night, Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said early reports of the incident prompted Governor Uba Sani to convene a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council. Conflicting accounts from some local residents initially cast doubt on the report, leading to caution before making official statements.
Hundeyin explained that remarks by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police were intended to prevent panic while facts were being verified and were not a denial of the incident.
“The remarks, which have since been widely misinterpreted, were a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field, including the identities and number of those affected,” he said.
Subsequent verification by operational units and intelligence sources confirmed the abduction took place, prompting coordinated security operations with other agencies to rescue the victims and restore calm.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed full deployment of operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding areas,” Hundeyin said. “This includes tactical units, intensified patrols, targeted search-and-rescue missions, and proactive measures to protect lives and property.
The Nigeria Police Force urges the public and media to rely on official communications and avoid speculation, which could endanger operations or heighten anxiety.”
The Force affirmed its commitment to citizen safety and promised regular updates as the situation develops.
