Traders and buyers at Lugbe Market react to recent drop in food prices in Abuja.
Some residents of Abuja have welcomed the recent drop in food prices, describing it as a major relief amid rising living costs.
In separate interviews in Abuja, residents said the reduction followed Federal Government interventions aimed at improving food supply and affordability across the country.
A food vendor at Lugbe Market, Mrs Vivian Uche, said prices of major staples have fallen sharply. She noted that a bag of rice, which sold for about ₦76,000 months ago, now goes for around ₦55,000. She added that prices of garri, beans and other food items have also dropped significantly.
According to her, the price reduction has eased pressure on both traders and consumers.

A civil servant, Mrs Ifeoma Iwuji, said increased food supply through government policies has reduced prices, allowing families to buy more food.
Another resident, Mrs Cynthia Chukwuma, urged the government to ensure the price drop is sustained, warning that past reductions were often temporary.
A mechanised farmer, Mr Kayode Iyiola, attributed the lower prices to improved security in farming areas, the harvest season, subsidised fertiliser, dry-season farming initiatives and import waivers.
However, he noted that many Nigerians still face challenges due to low incomes, despite the reduction in food prices.
