The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to urgently improve the welfare of Nigeria’s armed forces and provide modern security equipment to address rising insecurity across the country.
The call was made in a statement to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15, in honour of fallen and serving military personnel.
Tribute was paid to soldiers who lost their lives defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, describing the day as a moment for national reflection, unity and renewed commitment to peace amid growing security threats.
They acknowledged the persistence of insecurity nationwide but commended the armed forces for their courage and resilience, urging them to remain steadfast.

Caucus said improved welfare, better arms, and modern equipment are critical to strengthening military capacity, noting that insecurity continues to threaten economic growth, public safety and national development.
It urged the Federal Government to take concrete steps to enhance welfare schemes and provide adequate arms and ammunition to help the military curb violent crimes and insurgency more effectively.
He also pledged legislative backing to support policies and actions aimed at improving national security.
The statement was jointly signed by Minority Leader O.K. Chinda, Minority Whip Ali Isa J.C, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki, and Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi.
