Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido
The Supreme Court has ordered the continuation of the ₦1.35 billion fraud trial of former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, his two sons, and other defendants at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In two unanimous judgments, a five-member panel of the apex court upheld the decision of the trial court, which dismissed the no-case submissions filed by the defendants. The court ruled that they have a case to answer.
The Supreme Court set aside the July 25, 2023 judgments of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had struck out the 37-count charge on the grounds that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction.

Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Abubakar Umar affirmed the earlier ruling of Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, which ordered Lamido and the other defendants to open their defence.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleges that Lamido abused his office between 2007 and 2015 by laundering funds received as kickbacks from companies awarded contracts by the Jigawa State Government.
Those charged alongside him include his sons, Aminu and Mustapha Lamido; Aminu Wada Abubakar; and two firms—Bamaina Holdings Limited and Speeds Inter
