Super Eagles players react after Nigeria’s penalty shootout loss to Morocco in the AFCON 2025 semi-final in Rabat.
Super Eagles of Nigeria have been eliminated from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON, after a 4–2 loss on penalties to host nation Morocco, following a goalless draw after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The semi-final was tightly contested, with Morocco dominating much of the attacking play and creating more shots on target.
Nigeria’s defence held firm, and goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Yassine Bounou made crucial saves to keep the scoreline level throughout regulation and extra time.

In the penalty shootout, misses from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno proved costly, allowing Morocco to convert four of their kicks and secure a place in the final, where they will face Senegal.
Walid Regragui’s Morocco have been under enormous pressure to deliver a first AFCON title for their country in half a century but will be confident of coming out on top with their support behind them at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
But as their dream remains alive it is an agonising way for Nigeria’s hopes to end, two years they lost the final to the hosts in Ivory Coast.
